Why you first choose Akuna Care?
We were really unhappy with our old kennel. Roxy always came back totally stressed out, alarmingly so.
We decided to get to the bottom of it. We knew she hated being left for pick up at the vets, so we went to pick her up ourselves. The dogs were kept in high rise cages with very limited play time. It was all very clean and professional but nothing like her home environment and she received very little personal attention.
A friend of ours who had a very active blue heeler told us about Akuna. He said that their dog couldn't wait to go and had more fun there than at home, swimming in dams and playing with other dogs. Hard to believe, so we rang.
Sounded great. We were so happy to find out that the dogs had grass runs, daily bush walks, play time with other dogs and so many options to make them feel at home.

Why you continued to use our service?
Roxy has been going to Akuna now for many years and when Marcus or any of the wonderful staff come to pick her up, she is happy to see them and very relaxed about getting in the van to go. The staff all know Roxy and her funny ways. They really like her. That makes us relaxed. We always feel she is in the best of hands.
On her return, she always looks great and we enjoy so much hearing about the other dogs she played with....yes we've probably lost the plot, but Akuna understand that!
What is your favourite Roxy story?
Since birth she was successfully trained to sit for extended periods at cafes and other city type locals. We rarely need a lead to go anywhere.
She is smart, needs a lot of exercise and enjoys spending most of the day on the upstairs verandah where she can keep an eye on the neighbourhood and comment as required. She was once described as something out of ET, thanks to her eccentric personality.
Early on, she had a taste for leather couches, a distinct dislike for old women with handbags and a fear of cats, thanks to "Puss" a mad old cat she lived with. Now she has thankfully mellowed. Many people say "what a lovely fat old thing". So in case that's what you are thinking, no she is not fat. However she would happily eat pretty much anything given the chance, except lettuce.
She is selectively deaf like many pets, except where food or runs are concerned. However, she is a good listener and can sing quite well given some encouragement. She enjoys cricket, is a fine fielder and has had success with soccer over the years.
Mostly she is a very well loved dog who only dreams of rounding up cattle while lying on the couch.
