| Favourite Pavlov story. |
Our dog Pavlov chases birds with Gusto! Here's why.
I was sitting in our lounge room one afternoon , working form home, when a bird flew in the back door. We have always left our back door open to allow Pavlov to go in and out. Some might have coped well with this occurrence - not me! I have a bit of a phobia where birds are concerned - absolutely terrified if they come near me. So in flies the bird and out flies me! Out the sliding door at the front of the house on tho the balcony. And there I was stuck.
Pavlov came with me. I could hear the bird flapping around inside and flying into windows - it was clearly distressed. But so was I stuck out on the balcony, nowhere to escape and feeling creepy all over. I held my breath and tried to make a dash inside, through the lounge room, and out the back door. I only got as far as two metres inside the door and had to come out again.
I called to the neighbours but no one was home. So I sent in the dog. I don't know what I was thinking Pavlov could do, but I sent her in saying "chase the bird, chase the bird". Needless to say, this did not work either.
In the end a neighbour who finally arrived home came to my rescue. He was able to coach the bird out with a blanket. I was mortifiably embarrassed! That was seven years ago and Pavlov to this day still chases every bird we see when we go out. I don't know what she would do if she ever caught one. I think she'd get a rude shock
