Our family began working to change the face of kenneling care in 1999. Having worked with animals for years, we were well aware that the standard of care in pet boarding was below what reasonable people generally expect. The number of people recounting unsettling stories about stressed and unhealthy animals left in the care of 'chain-wire fence' kennels and back-yard boarders seemed to be increasing. We received a lot of encouragement to develop our small pet care business into something that could have a greater impact. We quickly discovered that there were many friends and customers in the community that understood and were highly supportive.

Early analysis showed that the common risks were not well understood by pet owners before they encountered a problem with a kennel or a boarder- and that these businesses were not addressing many of the basic causes well. There is little in the way of industry governance and regulation that ensures a minimum level of care.

We began working with peers in the pet industry and at the same time, support flooded in from friends and pet owners, many of whom were contributed practical experience and advice. We developed new and innovative approaches that would reduce pet stress and address common issues. With so much support from the community, we decided to buy a clean, rural kenneling business in the Lower Hunter Valley. It was just right for our dream of a sustainable pet resort and we immediately set about implementing new practices, process improvements and data management systems that would support growth. At the same time we organically grew a large and loyal customer base of people who valued the service improvements, and our 'new standard' of care.

We built a special-purpose multi-million dollar facility to provide a the kind of environment necessary to support domestic animals (both physically and psychologically) over extended periods and are very proud to now offer what we always dreamed of: Service quality that is unsurpassed in the country.
