About Us:
Our family began working to improve dog boarding and cat care in 1999. Having worked in the industry for years prior, we knew the standard of care in pet boarding facilities was suffering- not just from inexperienced back yarders but many of the larger (and even boutique) kennel operators. We knew standards were well below what reasonable people generally expect, and that many operators, both large and small, presenting misleading perceptions about how animals were being treated.

The number of people who recounted unsettling stories about stressed and unhealthy animals left in the care of 'chain-wire fence' kennels and back-yard boarders in Sydney seemed to be increasing. Everyone we knew encouraged us to develop (then) pet care business into something that could have a far greater impact. We were discovering that there were many people in the community that knew the reality.

Analysis showed that the common risks were not well understood by pet owners before they encountered a problem with a kennel or a boarder. Boarders and kennels were not addressing the basic causes, and there was nothing in the way of industry governance and regulation to protect the animals, ensure a minimum level of care, or ensure that people gave to dogs and cats the quality of care or even basic facilities that they were claiming to give. The end result was that many dogs were being 'stacked' (cramming more than one dog into a run) or left in a yard to play together (fight it out)

We began working with peers in the pet industry and at the same time, support flooded in from friends and pet owners, many of whom were contributed practical experience and advice. We developed new and innovative approaches that would reduce pet stress and address common issues. With so much support from the community, we decided to buy a clean, rural kenneling business in the Lower Hunter Valley. It was just right for our dream of a sustainable pet resort and we immediately set about implementing new practices, process improvements and data management systems that would support growth. At the same time we organically grew a large and loyal customer base of people who valued the service improvements, and our 'new standard' of care.

This enterprise is now our living, embodying the passion and love we have for nature and society. Demand has allowed us to build a special-purpose, multi-million dollar facility to provide a the kind of environment necessary to support domestic animals (both physically and psychologically) over extended periods and are very proud to now offer what we always dreamed of: Service quality that is unsurpassed in the country.
